Villarreal 2 – Sevilla FC 2 [La Liga]

September 16, 2011

A very good Sevilla that took the initiative during the first half was masked by a very different team the second 45 mins. With that, Sevilla played with 11 while Villarreal saw how one of them got red carded. The Andalusian team was unable to win the game taking advantage of this. Marcelino stated that witness lack of ambition in his team. Negredo scored once again and confirmed his great moment of fitness. Rakitic returned to an official game after his injury.

A very well played game for Sevilla FC that put behind the Europa League and gives the fans hope that the team will perform in La Liga. Negredo was without a doubt, not just for his goals, a very important man in the team. The coordination with the wings [Perotti and Navas] and Manu Del Moral makes the fans smile and hope for better times!!
Here is a video with the highlights:

Should Manu Del Moral play as attacking Left winger or as a striker / center forward?
(polls)

With the sale of Rodri to Barcelona B, and Kone gone on loan to Levante, the only forwards are Kanoute and Negredo. Manu Del Moral has been used in more than one occasion for this purpose. Do you agree or should Sevilla FC bring another attacker [i.e. Giovanni Dos Santos, or other]?

Goodbye Europe!

August 26, 2011

Yup. A sad night the one lived by the Sevilla FC fans at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. This time, instead of putting a picture of frustration, I am posting a couple of pictures that demonstrate the type of fans this club has responding the call to help the team overcome the 2-1 from the first leg. A second staight year that the team fails to continue in Europe. Last year’s horrible loss against Sporting Braga has no comparison with what the sevillismo experienced yesterday. Two separate experiences, no doubt there. In Portugal last year, the team seemed to not wanting to qualify and let a lot to be said about the performance. Last night, in addition to the voice and chants from the fans, the team fought to qualify. In front they had a German team that has had a strong start in the Bundesliga. A dificult opponent for a play off phase, but things are this way. And the truth hurts. Bottom line, Sevilla FC is saying goodbye to an European tournament very, very early in a season that will hopefully kick off next weekend following the strike.

This Thursday, fútbol is played at the Ramón Sanchez Pizjuan!!!

Let’s go Sevilla FC!!!

Strike. A simple solution? [second contribution to Forzafutbol.com]

August 21, 2011

This whole issue with the delay of La liga because the players felt their interests were not taking into account has made me wonder that the resolution of striking, and therefore leaving fans all over the world without futbol has perhaps, greater consequences.

There are many presidents that have expressed their opinion about the strike. Del Nido [Sevilla FC], although understanding the player’s concerns, was against the strike. The reason? Well, let’s focus on Sevilla FC, a team that has completely revamped it’s starting eleven. They have invested a decent amount of money to tweak the team and improve on last year’s performance. Some of the money invested in players is thought or expected to be recovered with a spot in European Tournaments. The fear is that the number of members can decrease if this doesn’t occur. There is a lot at stake for the club and financially, strike is a poor choice.

With no league, players don’t get to execute what is taught during the training sessions and see that the coach is right. There is a lack of evaluation of methods. Players don’t get into a routine. The way I see it, Spanish teams participating in the Champions League or Europa League are in a weaker position compared to its rivals. This was obvious on Thursday during Hannover 96 – Sevilla FC [Europa League]. It was debated how well positioned were the Germans. They have already played five games so it was clear it took them way less time to get into the game. From a team’s development, strike is also a bad choice.

So, what are we going to do now? We need futbol!!!

The very first game of Marcelino’s era. A very awaited game to check any improvement from last season. We saw a team that lacked games. The players are slow in their moves and still trying to know how they have to play. With so many new players, this is expected so early in a season that hasn’t even started officially.
We do have some conclusions after the game. Fazio can’t play in the midfield. This position can be saved for Medel. The team noticed the change when the chilean came on.
Also, Armenteros as a new comer shouldn’t have started the game. Perhaps Marcelino wanted to hold the germans back and the hit them with Medel, Perotti and Manu del Moral. By the end of the first half, two mistakes in defense gave Hannover the advantage. The goal came after a pass from Negredo to Kanoute that all it had to do was pushing the ball into the net. An away goal that means a lot for the second leg next Thursday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The tops are here…

Sevilla FC presented the new tops for this season for both La Liga and Copa del Rey. They say LiNing has mixed tradition with the usual colors. THey look kinds simple to me but we all have different likes and dislikes. Tell us what you think.

Here is the article I wrote for this famous blog.

“July 4th was, in addition to burgers and hot dogs, full of futbol for me. I watched one of the Under 17 World Cup game. Watching the youngsters play, I remembered how important the enhancement and promotion of younger categories is in futbol in order to create a good base (cantera in Spanish).
As a decent Sevilla FC fan, I am delighted that Luis Alberto recently renewed his contract until 2015. We know how relevant he can be as a left winger that joins the attack with ease. We have seen players like Cala and Jose Carlos moving to Greece looking for minutes. Currently, Sevilla FC has several players representing the Spanish National Team in different categories. For example, Campaña is in Bucarest for the Under 19 European Championships. Luna will be on his way to Colombia for the Under 20 World Cup. In addition, we all know Capel plays with the Under 21 while Navas has become a regular for Del Bosque.

Nowadays many teams form their line-ups with experienced players and more and more often this is resulting in the inability of a younger player to come through and demonstrate his value. The immediate results in futbol determine the length of stay for a coach and it is hard for coaches to “gamble” with youngsters when their clubs can afford “well-known players.” Arsene Wenger has admired Sevilla FC’s cantera in the past and he continues to build Arsenal with a median age very low compared to other Premier League teams.

When “La Masia” closed its doors it was all over the news in Spain. After all, world class players have developed there with a style of play that has benefited Barcelona greatly over the years and with this, added talent to the Spanish National Team. Sevilla FC’s youngsters are part of one of the most important canteras in Spain without perhaps the big institutional structure.

The future of a national team rests on the junior categories and how we help them improve so they can contribute to the most fabulous game.”
